Introduction
Hello, my name is Frans. I’m a retired Senior Electrical Engineer.I’ve been working with computers since 1983 and programming has been a constant part of my career.
Professionally, I mainly programmed in BASIC and Clipper (dBase), and later worked extensively with Excel VBA.
Since my retirement, I’ve made the switch from Windows to Linux. While doing so, I’ve been revisiting a large collection of my old BASIC — and even some Pascal — programs, looking for a convenient way to keep them usable on modern systems.
That journey is what brought me to Gambas.

My journey into programming started around the same time (1982), with Basic, Assembler, Fortran and Cobol.
A few years later Pascal and DBaseII (I believe) where added to that list of stuff I was doing.
I found Gambas in 2009, after a transition from Windows to Linux, to never go back.
Linux is like coder heaven, compilers for all kinds of languages I hadn't touched in decades where at my feet.
But once I started using Gambas, even those seemed no longer that interesting anymore.
Enjoy your stay on the forum…
And feel free to post question if you have any…
P.S. Hallo mensen is geen Engels
