I know there's the wiki site but that's not exactly what I'm looking for.

Since the free PDF version download link is gone:
I also found this.

This was also interesting.

I'm still an absolute beginner with gambas myself, although I've been following the project for a long time. But I couldn't get to grips with the documentation.
My recommendation is definitely the Greek Gambas3 book: https://github.com/demosthenesk/the_gambas3_book
I wasn't put off by the language and the Greek letters and I'm currently on the last few pages.
The book is great. I recommend using a translation tool such as deepl.com or https://translate.disroot.org/
and in addition the excellent online wiki from Gambas, / - Gambas Documentation
I have translated the entire text of the book into German and refined the text with details from the online wiki.
In my opinion, this book explains the concept of Gambas very well and even things like class creation are well presented.

I have been trying to get that greek pdf translated to english with no succes.
It either timed-out or translation was only partionally done.
I tried multiple tools but without luck. I must say these were all free tools.
I also tried the one you mentioned.
Is there a way you can upload your translated copy here?
I would really appreciate that.

Hi Amainie,
I would really like to help you and I am happy to provide you with my translations. There is just one problem: I translated into German. I don't think that will be of much help to you, is it?
As far as tools are concerned, I can only say that I mainly used deepl.com. However, there are now severe restrictions on its use.
I also used LibreTranslate - Free and Open Source Machine Translation API 🌐, but there are currently some problems there as well.
I worked through the entire book and created all the examples myself. That was a great help for me in getting to know Gambas and its classes.
I can send you my German translations if that makes it easier for you.
Otherwise, I can only refer you to a new project that is currently being created by
The Greek book has the advantage that it provides a rough overview of all classes, each with an example.
But because of these completely different letters, it wasn't easy for me to translate at first, but over time I somehow got the hang of it.
I hope I haven't written something completely different with my translation
best regards

I dont mind a German translation,
i worked for many years on IT-projects where the manuals were written in German.

first of all, thanks for that great hint about that greek Gambas book. I've already started to translate a few pages by myself (using your tips) but to be honest with you: I really wanna piggyback on gbAmainie's request.
I would also love getting a PM from you and appreciate your hard work.

Danke.

Thanks for the quick reply.
It was probably some other problem, but it has now worked.

Hallo Poly,
ziemlich neu auf Ubuntu von Windows 10, war zwar eine schöne Umstellung, da sich nicht alles 1:1 native umsetzen lässt
aber ja, Generation 60+
Nach Bash/Terminal bin ich auch auf Gambas3 gekommen. Etwas Erfahrung mit VB unter Excel habe ich ja und jetzt
spiele ich mit diversen Projekten unter Gambas3.
Ich würde auch gerne die Übersetzung haben, wenn Du so nett bist und mir das zusenden könntest?
Besten Dank 🙏

This might be interesting for you: GambOS repository
It is the software repository of GambOS and since you are on Ubuntu, you could add it and install Gambas Learning Center and some guides (one Gambas beginners guide and one about GambOS/Debian and thus Ubuntu as well, a Linux beginners guide aimed at Gambas developers) If you are using Gambas from official Ubuntu repositories you are better of with this version of Gambas anyway as they are badly packaged not conform the Gambas instructions for pacjkaging.
You could also just install GambOS (an educational preseeded Debian) in a virtual machine and have a safe environment to play and learn, without messing with your current installed Ubuntu. The GambOS project is hosted there on Gambas One and aims at people new to Gambas and/or Linux. The Linux discussed is Debian as many newcomers start on a Debian based disribution, like Ubuntu, so the core things are identical
And yes, I do read German as I live a 45 minutes drive away from Germany. As a kid I used to watch ZDF, WDR und NRD on TV (in the antenna universe that once was), where I learned German watching 'Das progamma mit die Maus' and such…

Thanks for the hints, most of them I got already from Poly 👍
As most of the people I have to find also the time to do all that stuff, for me it was not that ease to
jump from Windows and getting the things done in a similar way. The lurning curve is there but
after the about 2 month I don't want to go back.
Also I'm forgetting the things I rarely use...
My youngest grand daughter aged 4 if they come for a visit she always asks for seeing "Die Sendung mit der Maus"
on the laptop which I can't hardly deny if she looks at me with her bright eyes and a smile 😀
One of my favorite series back then was "The Munsters", in black and white, and as far as I can remember
with German subtitles and the original language. (Hermans laughing: "Ha - Ha - Ha" 😀)
Thanks & Regards
